No Set Agenda
Photographing in black and white allows a focus on shape and texture. I also find it easier to compose an image in black and white, so have my camera set up to shoot raw and jpeg images with a black and white "profile" (or "filter" if you're using a Fuji). The result is that the viewfinder/screen shows me the scene in black and white as it would be on the jpeg file, and I still get a full-colour raw file for full editing flexibility.
Today saw me take a slow drive around the "loop road" in Sleat, Skye, stopping frequently just to see what I could find. One camera, one lens (Leica Q3) to keep things really simple. Without any specific agenda or subject to shoot, I was free to doodle around. Having an open mind is important for creativity. Too often I have gone out with a particular image in mind, resulting in many missed opportunities and photographs not made.
I have picked a little selection of the afternoon's photographs. There is a good mix of styles and approaches to pick from. I am very partial to a bold and singular composition such as the lone tree and the bright tidal pool. I also like to show some of the gentler sides to life in Skye such as the hardy sheep that enjoy blocking the roads. The massive landscapes are always a huge draw of course.
It was a lovely afternoon out, in great weather and crisp, cool air. The photography is just an excuse really.
